Ground-breaking ceremony for PUMA's new intralogistics centre: io-consultants on site in Geiselwind
Heidelberg - 19.2.2019
At the ground-breaking ceremony in Geiselwind on 18th February 2019, the official starting signal was given for PUMA's logistics centre, where io-consultants supported the logistics planning and realisation.
PUMA, one of the world's leading manufacturers of sports brands, begins the construction of a highly automated distribution centre. io-consultants supports BLG LOGISTICS with interdisciplinary expertise in logistics planning in the areas of concept, detailed and execution planning as well as the realisation of the future central warehouse. Furthermore, io-consultants supports the project manager BLG in the planning of the building construction as well as the commissioning of the intralogistics and supports the project management.
The highlight in the logistics centre is the 24-aisle shuttle warehouse, which offers 730,000 parking spaces. Around 480 shuttles handle the storage and retrieval of goods here. The individual functional areas are connected to more than 21 kilometres of energy-efficient conveyor technology. A high degree of automation accelerates deliveries and increases the performance and efficiency of the distribution centre. "With this multi-channel warehouse PUMA lays the foundation for the future requirements in the B2C and B2B business" says Rainer Diez, member of the management board of io-consultants.
The intralogistics centre for PUMA is to be built in the Bavarian municipality of Geiselwind by spring 2021. BLG LOGISTICS will operate this location in the coming years as a logistics service provider for PUMA.
